The Year of Immigration provides UMD community members with opportunities to engage with the local immigrant and international community.

November 2018

Be Seen, Be Counted in 2020

 

Co-hosted by the Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, this workshop with teach participants to apply design thinking as we examine how we might count undercounted populations in our community, including immigrants, on the 2020 Census. Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Adele's Room in Stamp. RSVP details coming soon.

 

Spring 2019

“Terps Translate”

A new initiative by the Office of Community Engagement (OCE), Terps Translate will recruit multilingual volunteers to provide free interpretation and translation services at campus and community events. This spring, there will be two signature Terps Translate events:

 

Estudios Universitarios

Saturday, March 9th, 9:30 a.m. - 1:00pm in Stamp. A partnership with Prince George's County Public School system and UMD, this annual event targets Spanish-speaking families with extensive resources related to college preparation and the entrance process. As part of the event, Terps Translate will provide free Spanish-to-English translation services for materials submitted by nonprofit and community stakeholders.

 

"Good Neighbor Day"

Saturday, April 13, 2019. A partnership between UMD and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, this event brings together the College Park community to beautify shared spaces, engage in sustainable practices, and take pride in Greater College Park. Good Neighbor Day 2019 is projected to include 900+ volunteers and 20 community service projects. As one of the projects, Terps Translate will translate materials submitted by nonprofit and community stakeholders into multiple languages.
